At the 2025 Grammys, Kanye West and his spouse, Bianca Censori, made headlines with their dramatic red carpet entrance that left both the attendees and viewers alike in shock. Censori, an award-winning architect who holds both a bachelor’s and master’s degree, initially walked down the red carpet in a flashy black fur coat. Eyewitnesses claimed West told Censori to “drop her coat” and “create a scene,” making it appear as though the stunt was spontaneous and unplanned. This is in line with West’s previous relationships, as he has been accused of controlling his partners’ looks. For example, ex-wife Kim Kardashian admitted that West repeatedly criticized her style and controlled what she wore throughout their marriage.

Similarly, Julia Fox, whom West briefly dated, described herself as feeling like a “prop” and a “show monkey” and called their relationship a “weird, twisted game” where she felt “used” and “dirty.”

Censori’s Australian family has been worried about her well-being. Still, due to her age and independence, they are helpless to act. Interestingly, Censori herself has not spoken out during the controversy, which has further led to speculations regarding her agency in such instances.

This behavior is a cause for serious concern regarding coercive control, which is a pattern of emotional and psychological abuse in which one partner attempts to gain power over the other. The fact that these incidents were public highlights how important it is to acknowledge and address such dynamics, even if they are between celebrities.
