Mass Shooting at Mandalay Bay Hotel in Las Vegas
Twenty killed and dozens injured as “lone wolf” gunman opened fire at country music festival.
Twenty people have been killed and dozens of others were injured last night in a mass shooting at Mandalay Bay Hotel in Las Vegas.
At around 10:20pm (5:20am GMT) a lone gunman opened fire from a top floor of the hotel, targeting patrons of the Route 91 Harvest Music Festival. Videos of the attack have been posted on social media. Festival patrons initially thought they were hearing a burst of fireworks but the confusion was temporary as they realized that hundreds of bullets were actually raining down upon them.
Police shot and killed the gunman on the 32nd floor of the hotel. The city strip has been on lockdown since armed forces arrived on the scene. The attacker’s motives remain unclear but it is believed that he was acting alone.
The incident has prompted a diversion of flights from Las Vegas McCarran airport.
Reports coming out of Las Vegas indicate that there has been at least one other incident on the strip but no details were given. Police have asked people to stay away from the scene of the shooting as investigations continue.
