Lin-Manuel Miranda Vs Trump

As Puerto Rico cries out for help, Trump responds and bashes San Juan’s mayor

Puerto Rico, an island drowning in debt was hit with destruction and devastation after Hurricane Maria ripped through the island, leaving it in darkness that will not see light for an estimated 6 months. CNN called the aftermath of Maria “apocalyptic” devastation for Puerto Rico and images of the destruction certainly prove that. Upturned roads, fallen trees, ruined homes and crowded plane terminals are just a few of the images but none was more powerful than the desperate plea let out by San Juan’s Mayor, Carmen Yulin Cruz who was critical of Washington’s slow response.

“I will do what I never thought I was going to do. If anybody out there is listening to us, we are dying, and you are killing us with the inefficiency.”

-Cruz said on Friday during a press conference

Good Morning America showed video Friday of containers stuck in port and filled with food, and other necessities that were essentially “stuck” and unmoving because while the goods were there and ready to be distributed, Puerto Rico needed drivers and workers to help clear the roads. Trump, who has been criticized for his slow response to Puerto Rico was sure to respond to Cruz and announced he would visit Puerto Rico this Tuesday to survey the damage.

Trump tweeted:

“Such poor leadership ability by the Mayor of San Juan, and others in PR who are not able to get their workers help. They (Puerto Rico) want everything done for them.”

Hollywood instantly responded to Trump’s careless tweet but no response was greater than Hamilton star Lin Manuel Miranda. His response to Trump’s tweets were filled with outrage for the current president. He remarked that Cruz has:

“been working 24/7. You have been GOLFING.”

Hurricane Maria was responsible for 62 deaths total as of September 25 and 24 of those lives were lost in Puerto Rico alone. The hurricane was the strongest to hit the island since 1928 and when Trump visits on Tuesday he will see the destruction firsthand and will surely not hesitate to share his thoughts.
