World’s largest vertical garden boasts 85,000 plants in Bogota
The Santalaia building has the largest vertical garden in the world and can be found in Bogota, Colombia. Covered with a lavish layer of 85,000 plants that stretch over 3,1000 square meters.
A vertical garden this big can produce plenty of oxygen for over 3,100 people each year, 1,708 pounds of heavy metal, filter more than 2,000 tons of harmful gases and catch around 881 pounds of dust, according to the Inhabitat.
This record-setting garden in Bogota was finished in 2015 after more than a year of planning. Paisajisimo Urbano‘s franchise Groncol designed and then installed the vertical garden with the help of the F+P system, created by Ignacio Solano.
The system includes a series of pillars with their own vegetal gardens – all installed vertically over the facade of the building. In order too boost biodiversity, various endemic species were included in the design.
