Dragged into the toxic world of politics, Comey was a man that was once seen as “unimpeachable”. He was seen as an example to the world of how a politician should behave and be deemed to be very good at his job. Upon learning he was fired, Comey learned not from an assistant or from President Trump himself, but rather by television. Comey was addressing the workforce in Los Angeles at the FBI office when televisions that were tuned into the news had Comey’s name all over there. To not make a discussion awkward, he made a joke about it but quickly called for confirmation from his office.

A Letter of Termination

Following Comey’s termination, a letter was sent out to him from President Trump. In the letter, it stated formally “hereby terminated and removed from office, effective immediately”. Trump goes on to state that he was not fit to lead the bureau, and that trust and confidence must be found in the newly appointed leader. Nevertheless, he was wished “good luck” on his future endeavors. The letter was released to the public on Tuesday.

Four Years Strong

Comey was appointed by the Obama administration back in 2013. His involvement with handling the Clinton email scandal was closely watched as the investigation went on. He recommended no criminal charges against Clinton although he had stated she was “extremely careless”. Getting closer to the election, Comey stated that the FBI would not look into the Clinton case again as it was deemed she had not broken the law. After Trump won the presidential race, Comey stated the FBI started looking into the fact of whether or not Russia had intervened with the election on the 20th of March. On the 9th of May, he was terminated, with Trump stating the following day “He was not doing a good job”.
