The Interior Counselor from the Government of Catalonia, Joaquim Forn, said for RTVE in a statement that “everything leads” to 22-year-old Younes Abouyaaqoub as the person behind the wheel during the attacks.

Mossos d’Esquadra informed on Twitter Monday that the fugitive responsible for driving the van that killed 13 people on Ramblas Boulevard has been identified.

The search for this suspect has been extended throughout all Europe.

Forn also stated that Catalonian Police works with the hypothesis that there was a sole driver in the vehicle. Another line of investigation would be if Abouyaaqoub had any accomplices for his escape or hideout.

Officials also linked the events on Las Ramblas with the man being stabbed to death in a stolen car that escaped a police control on Diagonal Boulevard, during the day when the events took place.

The counselor updated the casualty situation: 50 injured, from which 9 in critical condition and 13 in serious condition.

Until now, 15 people died in the Catalonia attacks, out of which 13 in Barcelona, the man found in the car and one woman who died during a second attack in Cambrils hours later, in which five suspected jihadists were killed by police.

In addition to those killed in Cambrils, four others are under arrest and there are two sets of human remains to be identified at a house that blew up the town of Alcanar, south of Barcelona, on August 16.

Catalan police chief Josep Lluís Trapero said on Sunday that of the 12 suspects, only one – turned out to be identified as Abouyaaqoub – remained at large, according to BBC.
