Anti Nazi protest erupt in Los Angeles

Protesters in Los Angeles demonstrate in solidarity with the anti-nazi protesters in Charlottesville, Virginia.

In response to the fascist resurgence made manifest as a torch lit march and the Unite the Right rally in Virginia, protesters in Los Angeles took to the streets to show their anger and discontent. This came after a Neo Nazi murdered a Heather Heyer, one of the activist protesting the KKK and Neo Nazis in Charlottesville, by running her over.

Several leftist organizations mobilized approximately three hundred people in front of the headquarters of the Los Angeles Police Department. For one and a half hours, the activists chanted “Black Lives Matter!” “No Trump! No KKK! No Fascist USA” and “No ban! No Registry! F**k white supremacy!”

One Jewish speaker at the demonstration said “I was never thankful for  those who did nothing.

After the official demonstration was over, hundreds of passionate activists peacefully took to the streets of downtown Los Angeles to further express their refusal to “accept a fascist USA.” They marched from the LAPD Headquarters to Pershing Square, disrupting a concert and compelling dozens of people to join the march. The people of Los Angeles cheered as the multi-generational and multi-racial coalition took to the streets. Afterwards, they marched to City Hall and demonstrated on the streets and met minimum police resistance.

According to eyewitness an unidentified counter protester attempted to use his vehicle to run over the activists which prompted the Angel City Antifa to use bikes and their own cars to provide an escort and block intersections to protect the activists. No one was injured.

One demonstrator we spoke with said “Silence in the presence of evil is evil.”

There were also protest held for the following day organized by the Refuse Fascism Organization. The LA Times reported that more than 100 people were in attendance.

More demonstrations are expected in the following days.
