The salary of the Chinese workers who made Ivanka Trump’s expensive clothing line

The company that was in charge with making the Ivanka Trump’s fashion line contracted a workers at factory in China under gruesome conditions, reports The Washington Post.

Factory workers endured long hours up to nearly 60 hours a week for low pay of $62 a week, according to a factory audit released Monday.

The contractor G-III Apparel Group held the exclusive license since 2012 to make the clothing for Ivanka Trump’s line. The same company also makes clothes for well known brands such as Calvin Klein and Tommy Hilfiger, among others.

Inspectors with the Fair Labor Association found several violations of international labour standards during a tour of the factory. The reports shows that the 80 workers faced long working hours, high turnover and very low pay, near or below China’s minimum wage.

However, the Chinese law sets the limit for overtime at 36 hours per month, workers in all of the factory’s departments exceeded that limit, working up to 82 hours of overtime a month between September 2015 and August 2016.

Moreover, the average manufacturing employee in urban China made twice as much money as the factory’s workers

The report comes after Donald trump’s daughter has sought to promote her father’s agenda of “buy American, hire American”.

Now an official adviser to the president, Ivanka Trump stepped down from her management role at the clothing company, but retained an ownership interest. Its assets were moved into a trust that is overseen by her husband’s siblings. Trump is the sole beneficiary of the trust, which is valued at more than $50 million.

G-III factories overseas have shipped more than 110 tons of Ivanka-brand blouses, skirts, dresses and other garments to the United States since October, shipping data shows.
