Donald Trump wants to put humans on Mars in the next years
In the next three years, Donald Trump wants to put humans on Mars.
After signing a law that green lights a trip to Mars in 2030, now President Trump would like NASA to launch a man mission to the Red Planet by the end of his first term, to the Independent.
Trump even urged the astronauts to speed up the process so that his demand was met. Whether the president was joking or not remains unclear.
The target is highly-ambitious, as it will require technical and specialist equipment that goes far beyond any space mission ever made. President Trump is an active supporter of exploring other planets like Mars. He even took away NASA’s funding for their Earth science work to focus on missions into our own solar system.
SpaceX CEO Elon Musk supports his views, because the billionaire also wants humans to move to Mars.
Trump’s request was made during a livestreamed chat with astronaut Peggy Whitson, who recently became the American who has spent the longest time in space. During the call, Trump said that he likes speaking to the astronauts more than he enjoyed speaking to the politicians on the ground.
