May’s Conservatives hold lead in election polls

Conservatives are in the lead, ahead of Labour, new Opinium poll shows.

Theresa May’s Conservative party held a 19 percentage point lead over Labour in a poll by research group Opinium on Saturday, helped by a slide in support for the main opposition party and the anti-EU group UKIP ahead of a June election.

According to an online poll of 2,003 voters carried out on April 19 and 20, some 45 percent of voters said they would vote for the ruling Conservative party, up 7 percent on last week and before May called a national election for June 8.

In another poll, by Comres for the Sunday Mirror, Conservatives are at 50 pct while Labour is at 25. Support for Liberal Democrats is at 11 pct while UKIP is at 7.
