Hubble observes the vigorous star formation in a galaxy

The NASA and European Space Agency’s Hubble telescope is observing the vigorous and beautiful star formation in a galaxy approximately 11 million light years away.

A galaxy known as NGC 1569 is providing a mesmerizing display of star birth. The spectacular sight has been captured by NASA’s Hubble telescope and is now viewable on the NASA website (NASA, July 2017)

Although our galaxy produces some stars it is nowhere near as active as the galaxy in question. In fact this galaxy produces stars 100 times more regularly than our own galaxy (the Milky Way). Such star formations are the result of the compression of gas from the remnants of old supernovae and the gravitational effects of surrounding galaxies. The gases from old exploded stars condense due to the immense gravitational forces caused by other galaxies in the vicinity.

The particular group of galaxies that NGC 1569 is now thought to belong to is IC 342. The unique forces experienced within this group of galaxies allows for immense forces to act on the gases of old stars which causes an abundance of star formation. The beautiful display captured by the Hubble telescope will advance our knowledge in relation to the origin of star clusters and the origin of matter. This hotbed of solar formation will provide insights into the nature of gravity and its interaction with matter for years to come.
