This is the world’s heaviest building. It weighs billions of tonnes

The world’s heaviest building is located in Romania’s capital, Bucharest. The Palace of Parliament weighs almost 4,5 billion tonnes.

Also known as the People’s House, the building is featured with three records in World Records Academy – as the largest, most expensive and heaviest administrative building in the world.

It has a total surface of 330,000 square meters, is almost 90 meters tall and has a volume of 2,55 million cubic meters.

It is the world’s heaviest building, weighing no less than 4,5 billion tonnes, according to worldatlas.com.

The Palace of Parliament has over 1,000 rooms, including four restaurants, three libraries and a concert hall. The project featured 700 architects, with the construction beginning in 1984 and continuing until 1989, the year the Revolution that upturned the regime lead by Nicolae Ceaușescu took place.

The work on the People’s House have never been completed, and today only 400 of its 1,000 rooms are finished.

A million cubic meters of marble, 5,500 tonnes of cement, 7,000 tonnes of steel, 2 million tons of sand and 1,000 tonnes of basalt.
