From Finland’s biggest marathon to the one held in Amsterdam, here are five European capitals which will provide you with great marathon experiences and satisfy your wanderlust after the race is over.

Helsinki City marathon

Finland’s biggest marathon, this will take place on August 12. The route takes the runners through the Baltic Sea coastline, as well as many of Helsinki’s scenic sights. The Finnish capital is great for the traditional cuisine, contemporary architecture as well as the urban sauna culture.

Taking place on August 19, this marathon is a loop that starts and finished at Laekjargata, next to the Islands-banki. After the race you might want to go to a geothermal beach, or go on a whale-watching excursion.
