The cause of autism has been discovered
A Korean-American Professor Couple has discovered the main cause of autism.
The couple – Harvard Medical School’s professor Huh Jun-ryeol and MIT’s professor Gloria Choi – found that a particular bacteria in the mother’s digestive tract can lead to an autistic kid, as Korea Daily reports. The couple’s two research studies were published in the science journal Nature.
For the study, a pregnant mouse was infected by a virus and went on to have an offspring that presented autistic behaviours. Certain bacteria in the mother’s digestie tract can develop immune cells that influence the baby’s brain cells development. When the bacteria was removed with antibiotics, the mouse had a normal baby mouse.
Professor Huh said, “When we were doing the research together in two different labs, we sent support for each other instead of measuring whose work is better. It was very helpful for our research success,” Huh said. “Our major fields of study are different as they are each Immunology and Neurobiology, and it actually helps us researching on Neuroimmunology.”
