Mindfulness meditation is worth trying

It is not a myth that meditation can go a long way in helping to nurture better overall health in body and mind. It is certainly worth taking the time to meditate on a regular basis.

It has been reported by Valley Health System that the practice of mindfulness meditation can be traced back thousands of years. Its roots are in both yoga and meditation.

Jodie Katz, M.D., who is the Director of the Center for Integrative Medicine at The Valley Hospital, says with mindfulness the person learns how to be present in the moment and how to make his or her mind quiet. Dr. Katz explains that there is a significant impact on a person’s stress level and overall well-being from mindfulness.

There is also a chance to let go of being judgemental about ourselves and about our experiences with mindfulness. This allows us to know experiences as they are and to know ourselves as we are without being burdened by harsh judgments. This leads us in the direction of having a warm and open curiosity about our lives.

Mindfulness is flexible and it can, therefore, be personalised to fit into your individual lifestyle. There are benefits to be gained from just short periods of meditation and you can actually meditate from just about anyplace.

There can be a significant impact on a person’s ability to handle stress with mindfulness. Dr. Katz points out that being capable of lessening the impact of stressors in life on our overall health in body and mind is more important than ever in our contemporary fast-paced and very competitive world.

Carnegie Mellon University reports that mindfulness meditation has become a very popular way for people to enhance their mental and physical health. Research from Carnegie Mellon University has shown that just brief mindfulness meditation practice for about 25 minutes for three consecutive days lessens psychological stress. Clearly finding just some time to meditate on a regular basis can have significant health benefits in body and mind.
