These are the most unhealthy jobs in the USA

By their nature, there are some jobs that pose greater health risks than others, for example catching infectious diseases.

Business Insider used data from the Occupational Information Network, a US Department of Labor database full of detailed information on occupations, and used six parameters to analyze jobs’ impact on their workers’ health: exposure to contaminants; exposure to disease and infection; exposure to hazardous conditions; exposure to radiation; risk of minor burns, cuts, bites, and stings; and time spent sitting.

The parameters were ranked with a score from 0 to 100.

So here are the 10 most unhealthy jobs in the USA:

Anesthesiologist assistant

With an overall unhealthiness score of 61.3, this job’s top three risks are exposure to disease and infections (97), exposure to radiation (72) and exposure to contaminants (71).

Anesthesiologist

The overall unhealthiness score for this job is of 61.8, with exposure to disease and infections scored at 90, exposure to contaminants scored at 81 and exposure to radiation scored at 72.

Flight attendant

This job’s top three risks are exposure to contaminants, scored at 88, exposure to disease and infections, scored at 77 and exposure to minor burns, cuts, bites, or stings, scored at 69, leading to an overall unhealthiness score of 62,3.

Prosthodontist

The people that construct oral prostheses to replace missing teeth and other correcting oral structures have an overall unhealthiness score of 63.

Nurse anesthetist

This job has an overall unhealthiness score of 63,7, with top three risks being exposure to disease and infections, exposure to contaminants and exposure to radiation.

Dental assistant

Dental assistants have an overall unhealthiness score of 65,5, having the top three risks of exposure to disease and infections, exposure to contaminants and exposure to radiation.

Dental laboratory technician

These people, that construct and repair full or partial dentures or dental appliances, have an overall unhealthiness score of 65.7, as they are exposed to contaminants, spend a lot of time sitting and are also exposed to disease and infections.

Veterinary assistant and laboratory animal caretaker

The people that take care of our beloved pets are exposed to disease and infections, contaminants and minor burns, cuts, bites, or stings, thus leading to an overall unhealthiness score of 66,5.

General dentist

With a score of 69,5, general dentists are exposed disease, infection and radiation and spend a lot of time sitting.

Dental hygienist

Dental hygienists ranked as the jobs with the highest unhealthiness score, of 72,8, as they are very exposed to diseases, infections, radiation and spend most of their time sitting.
