Tesla says charging is its priority, announces more than 10,000 Superchargers globally by the end of 2017

Tesla announced recently that it’s planning to expand its network to over 10,000 Superchargers globally, almost double the number currently in use. California will alone host more than 1,000 new Superchargers and the U.S. car manufacturing company says will also build larger sites along the busiest travel routes.

In an update regarding its plans for 2017, Tesla noted that it’s “making charging an even greater priority.” As such, the Supercharger network, energized back in 2012 and which currently features over 5,400 Superchargers, will be expanded to over 10,000 Superchargers by the end of the year.

Tesla also announced it will increase the number of Superchargers in North America by 150 percent and will add around 6,000 Destination Charging connectors – Tesla Wall Connectors provided by the company to hotels, resorts and restaurants – around the world.

“We’re moving full speed on site selection and many sites will soon enter construction to open in advance of the summer travel season,” Tesla says in its update.

According to Tesla’s site, the company now has 842 Supercharger stations with 5,431 Superchargers.

Recently, Tesla stock jumped 5.8 percent and the company has a market capitalization of $48 billion, surpassing Ford Motor’s $45.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk also recently announced a final unveil of the Model 3 in July, a Semi truck unveil in September and a Pickup truck unveil in 18 to 24 months.
