Where British children really want to go this summer

Summer is here and so are the concerns of what activities should you plan for your children and where to go on holiday so that the young ones can enjoy themselves. A recent YouGov study asked the kids what they wanted to do this summer and the results were surprising.

Holidays are complicated for parents looking around to find activities that are both educational and enjoyable for children. And while some might think that children would prefer being left in front of the computer, playing their favorite video game, a recent YouGov study shows that the kids actually would like something else entirely.

For youngsters aged 6 to 15 , from a list of 16 possible holiday activities, going to a beach is  the top choice for things to do this summer, with nearly seven in ten, some 69 per cent, saying they would like to be beside the seaside.

Playing video games comes in sixth in the list of proposed holiday activities this summer, favored by 41 per cent of children and followed by going camping and seeing members of the extended family.

The study also revealed a heavy gender divide with boys being twice as likely to want to play video games than girls, 57 per cent vs. 24 per cent. What might exasperate parents is that for boys, playing video games is the second most popular holiday activity overall.

What about the least popular activities. According to the study, mountain biking and staying at home were at the bottom of the list, together with going to a festival.

But parents can rest assured, children, even teenagers, have no problem going with them on vacation. The results show that 62 per cent of youngsters, prefer going on holiday with family members.
