Want to be more productive at work? This small morning ritual might be your answer

Do you struggle with being productive at work and nothing you do in the morning seems to set the proper tone for the rest of the day? According to William McRaven, a four-star commander, the answer to this is a very simple ritual you can do after you wake up: making your bed.

The former 61-year-old commander reveals ten tips for readers on how to change their lives in his best-selling book ”Make Your Bed: Little Things That Can Change Your Life… And Maybe the World”. Besides the obvious main tip in the title, McRaven also provides useful information on how to stand up to bullies or move on from failure.

“It was my first task of the day, and doing it right was important. It demonstrated my discipline,” he wrote about making his bed.

“It showed my attention to detail and at the end of the day, it would be a reminder that I had done something well, something to be proud of, no matter how small the task….Making my bed was the one constant that I could count on every day,” he explains.

The idea for the book originated in a 2014 commencement speech that McRaven gave at the University of Texas System, which was viewed more than 25 million times.

William McRaven’s career spawned almost four decades and his time in the military included famous Operation Neptune Spear, widely credited for the plan that led to the death of Osama bin Laden. Following the operation, the former Navy officer was nominated for Time Person of the Year.
