Meryl Streep is now 68 and still doing great!

Celebrate Meryl Streep’s 68th birthday today on June 22, 2017.

Meryl Streep continues to remain one of the most celebrated stars in cinematic history. She has received an impressive twenty Academy Award nominations, most recently for Florence Foster Jenkins (2016). Even though she has received more nominations than any other film star, that unfortunately meant that she had to endure losing a total of seventeen times. In spite of those losses, Meryl Streep still continues to inspire audiences even with her somewhat overrated status.

After studying at Yale, Streep received her first nomination for her supporting role in The Deer Hunter. She won her first Oscar for Kramer vs. Kramer (1979), and then received her second Oscar for playing Sophie in Sophie’s Choice (1982), based on the bestseller by William Styron. Since that second victory, Streep went on to play numerous characters ranging from the devilish Miranda Priestly in The Devil Wears Prada to the witch from Into the Woods (2014). She received a standing ovation after finally winning her third Oscar for playing Margaret Thatcher in The Iron Lady (2011). However, she unfortunately had to stand in front of everyone at the recent Academy Awards ceremony as Jimmy Kimmel criticized her status as “uninspiring and overrated.”

Now in June 2017, only time will tell for what lies ahead for this celebrated (and possibly overrated) actress. She might receive her fourth Oscar soon. She might receive additional nominations because of her fans from the Academy and the Hollywood Foreign Press. All that is certain for sure is that Meryl Streep is now 68 and still doing great!
