Why everyone should watch “Before The Flood”
In the wake of a much-anticipated decision by United States President Donald Trump on whether to pull back from the Paris Climate Agreement, the questions on global warming arise. There are hundreds of documents explaining what’s happening to our planet, but Before The Flood stands out as one actor puts aside his work to inform the world.
Climate change is real. It really can not be stressed enough. With Donald Trump’s decision to pull out of the Paris Climate Agreement, it has all wondering, now what? How will this affect our planet? Well, in a lot of ways. The main problem with global warming and people is that if you start talking about global warming to someone, they slowly start to drift away from the conversation, since to most it’s not affecting them in many ways. However it is affecting millions on other corners of the public, and now more than ever we need to be informed rather than just told a story.
One Actor’s Message
Academy Award winning actor, Leonardo DiCaprio, is known for his well played out movies, Titanic, The Revenant, Wolf on Wall Street, just to name a few. His roles deliver a memorable performance usually leading him to the Oscars, but just last year he did a different kind of role, this time sitting behind the screen and producing a documentary. In his 2016 Oscar acceptance speech, one thing was clear, DiCaprio was passionate on global warming. Besides thanking his team and the Academy for the award he took the opportunity to tell the world about what is going on in the planet and roll out his next work.
Since then DiCaprio set out to make a documentary called “Before The Flood” which focuses on global warming. Although one may be thinking the only difference is that this was made by an actor, it’s not. The difference between this documentary and the usual global warming documentaries is that it’s not interested in making money, but rather spread a message that everyone needs to hear and be informed about.
Scary but Realistic Information
You see pictures of forest’s shrinking, and ocean’s growing, and poles melting but you really have not got a clue on how your everyday life can be affected by all of this. Before the Flood sends out the message that soon, all will be affected and it’s only a matter of time before we can end what could be catastrophic storms. It shows that every little thing is factored into our planets change, such as the foods we choose in a supermarket to the political mixes around the world, everything is affected. Not only does the documentary show the drastic changes occurring all over the globe but also shows the actions that we as individuals should do everyday in order to combat this growing issue that could possibly even put an end to the human race.
The film features several interviews. To gather the most information interviews were conducted with former US presidents Barrack Obama, and Bill Clinton, secretary of state John Kerry, former UN Secretary-General, Ba Ki-Moon, and Pope Francis. It also interviews top NASA researchers, forest conservationists, scientists, climate change activists and The Revenant director, Alejandro Iñarritu, who in his interview stated how he had to move his whole movie production to the other side of the world to find some snow to film in. This was due to the nature of global warming and how our planet is growing increasingly warmer every year.
Free For All For All To See
With little theatrical release, and not much promotion, the film’s aim was not to raise money like most films, it’s main goal was to inform. The film was posted by the National Geographic on most viewing platforms for all to see. Since then it is still available on YouTube. The film had a limited release in some cities such as New York, Los Angeles and London. On Nat Geo channels the film has been shown to 171 countries and in 45 different languages. It also made world records as the film reached over 30 million views worldwide which is the largest sampling for a documentary in the world. It goes to show that this is a growing issue with a growing audience worldwide.
