Pinkett Smith revealed that she and Smith have been separated since 2016, a fact they had kept private until now. During their initial discussion, she explained that her relationship with Alsina began as a friendship, stemming from a desire to support his health and mental well-being.

The couple met Alsina through their son Jaden in 2015. Alsina described the relationship passionately, stating, “I totally gave myself to that relationship for years… so much so that I can die right now and be OK with knowing that I truly gave myself to somebody.”

During the original “Red Table Talk” episode, Pinkett Smith clarified that she was seeking personal fulfillment during a challenging period in her marriage. “It had been so long since I felt good,” she admitted. She also emphasized that she was the only person who could give “permission” in such a circumstance.

Smith, for his part, acknowledged the complexity of their journey. “I wasn’t sure I was ever going to speak to you again,” he said. “The fact that I’m speaking to you again is a miracle.”

Despite their separation, the couple remains committed to their relationship. Pinkett Smith stated, “I made a promise that there will never be a reason for us to get a divorce. We will work through whatever.” They concluded their conversation with their trademark solidarity: “We ride together, we die together. Bad marriage for life.”

The interview also addressed the viral “sad meme” moment from the original episode, with Smith explaining his watery eyes were simply due to coffee-induced dehydration, not emotional distress.

Their candid discussion reveals a relationship built on mutual understanding, resilience, and a commitment to navigating challenges together, despite public scrutiny.
