The Japanese automaker is strategically investing in automation and AI to transform its EV production process in China, potentially reducing floor staff by 30%. While robots haven’t completely replaced human workers, Honda’s technological implementationalongside similar efforts from Mercedes-Benz, Tesla, and Dongfengsignals a significant shift in manufacturing paradigms.

Partnering with Guangzhou Automobile Group, Honda’s new factory utilizes AGVs to systematically move critical car components throughout the production line. This approach replaces traditional manual transportation methods with more efficient, technology-driven solutions.

In a Nikkei Asia interview, Honda executives emphasized their vision of electrification as an opportunity to fundamentally reimagine vehicle production. By using AI to fine-tune welding processes, the company aims to minimize operational expenses while maximizing productivity.

The Ye P7 represents a critical strategic move for Honda, particularly in China’s rapidly expanding EV market. Traditionally lagging in battery-electric vehicle development for Western markets, this model demonstrates the company’s commitment to remaining competitive in the world’s largest electric vehicle market.

The P7 features an 89.8 kWh battery pack, with base models delivering 268 hp from a rear motor. A dual-motor variant offers a combined 469 hp. Rear-wheel drive models boast a 404-mile (650 km) range, while the all-wheel drive version can travel up to 385 miles (620 km) between charges.
